Halina Lidia Sienkiewicz-Jarosz, professor of medical sciences, neurology specialist, health care manager and scientist. She graduated from the Medical Academy in Białystok in 1996. She obtained her doctorate in medical sciences in 2003 at the Medical Academy in Warsaw, and the title of professor of medical sciences in 2019. In the years 2021-2023 she completed MBA studies for the health care sector at the Lazarski University and the Medical University of Gdańsk.
Since 1999 she has been professionally associated with the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw, where she combines scientific activity with everyday clinical practice. She heads the 1st Neurological Clinic, which also houses the Center for Diagnostics and Treatment of Drug-Resistant Epilepsy. In 2016–2020, she served as Deputy Director for Medical Affairs, and in 2020–2023, she was the Director of the Institute.
As a clinician, she specializes in the treatment of patients with epilepsy, neurodegenerative brain diseases (e.g. Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease), strokes and other neurological conditions. Her scientific interests include epidemiology and treatment of diseases of the nervous system, including neurodegenerative diseases, as well as psychosocial aspects of neurological diseases. She is the author of over 350 scientific publications (including over 100 in journals from the so-called Philadelphia List), editor of medical books and supervisor of doctoral dissertations.
She has twice received a scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science for young scientists, as well as numerous scientific awards, including the Medal of the Polish Neurological Society and the Badge of Merit in Healthcare.
Prof. Sienkiewicz-Jarosz actively participates in the activities of scientific and expert organizations. Since 2022, he has chaired the National Council for Neurology, served as president-elect of the Polish Neurological Society, and also serves on the Committee of Neurological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Board of the Warsaw Branch of the Polish Neurological Society. He is also an expert for Alzheimer Europe.
