For a year now, Neuroterminal has been supporting doctors and patients at our facility, the Neurosphera Epilepsy Therapy Center. The system, created by Dr. Piotr Zwoliński and Dr. Mariusz Chmielewski, aids physicians in diagnosing and treating individuals with epilepsy. It also offers patients a quick and easy way to schedule appointments (both in-person and online), while ensuring continuous contact with their doctor and access to a schedule of treatments, tests, and consultations. And this is just the beginning!
What is Neuroterminal?
Neuroterminal is the world’s first comprehensive system that uses artificial intelligence – Ictal®, to assist our Center’s specialists in diagnosing and treating patients with epilepsy. Currently, it includes three important modules:
E-diagnosis – automatic identification of the type of epileptic seizure, E-therapy – selection of the appropriate pharmacological therapy, IctalRemedy® – monitoring the patient’s condition during care in the Neuroterminal®/Neurosphera system.
This system – exclusively used by Neurosphera – is also very useful for patients. Those receiving medical assistance from the clinic have constant contact with their physician, not just during appointments. This allows them to quickly send messages to their doctor, have online visits, or consult about a seizure by sending a video recording to their caregiver. Moreover, in March this year, we implemented a vital feature – the Integrated Care Plan. Since then, doctors have been setting an individual schedule of treatment, tests, and consultations up to a year in advance, visible to patients on a clear timeline.
A Bit of History
Work on such a solution began in 2010 by Dr. Piotr Zwoliński, along with the EMERGEN Foundation for Cybernetic Medicine Development. Later, Dr. Mariusz Chmielewski joined the project, programming and implementing the system. The Neuroterminal prototype was created in 2018. The following three years led to the finalization of the project and its launch by our clinic on May 10, 2021. On that day, our Center admitted its first patient using its help.
Neuroterminal in Numbers
In the first year of operation, 2603 patients used our system. They had 2354 medical appointments and underwent 542 EEG tests. Our patients also appreciate the constant contact with doctors, sending them as many as 402 messages since last May. During this time, our specialists issued 1642 prescriptions. These numbers demonstrate how important and necessary Neuroterminal is. This unique system has revolutionized the life of our clinic, doctors, and patients.
Neuroterminal – What’s Next?
Work is ongoing on the development and improvement of Neuroterminal. This is also supported by our other activities, such as the establishment of the Neurosphera Medical Council in March this year. Within it, two working groups were formed – for genetic ontology and epilepsy syndromes. Thanks to the work of specialists, Neuroterminal will be able to suggest genetic testing and analyze their results, leading to even more accurate and better epilepsy diagnosis.
